When a grieving mother, living in a secluded beach house with her young daughter, begins to doubt her reality, she must confront her deepest fears to protect both her child and her grip on the world.
The Villa is a tense, claustrophobic psychological thriller — with elements of dystopian sci-fi and psychological horror — where the line between dream and nightmare is dangerously thin.
After the tragic loss of one of her children, Andi retreats with her young daughter Lyra to a striking, isolated villa on a secluded tropical coast. What should be a haven becomes a cage: paralysed by her fear of water and the outside world, Andi withdraws, shielding Lyra inside, clinging to the fragile belief that she can keep them safe.
But the villa offers no refuge. Minimalist design and eerie silences amplify a mounting sense of claustrophobia as inexplicable disturbances creep through its walls: memories blur, shadows stretch too long, and Andi’s grasp on reality begins to fracture. The natural world presses in against her retreat, while the presence of Bayu — an enigmatic and charming delivery driver from the nearby village — destabilises Andi’s control over Lyra, who is increasingly drawn to the life her mother fears.
In the tradition of Relic and The Babadook and with a profound, mind-bending twist at its core, The Villa is a haunting descent into a mother’s fractured psyche. It is both an intimate story of grief and healing and a philosophical exploration of the delicate dance between simulation and reality.
