There were 18,500 young people aged between 10 and 17, who were convicted of a crime in Australia in 2022. Nationally, media is reporting that we are in the midst of a Youth Crime crisis, with a 24% increase in the rate of incidents committed by youth offenders compared to the previous year.

Pathways to Prison is a confronting and enlightening four-part documentary series that delves deep into the heart of youth criminality, exposing the complex tapestry of factors that lead young Australians down the path of crime. Each 30-minute episode focuses on a different and nuanced area of Youth Criminality. Episode 1, “Shadows of Care”, unveils the harrowing journey from residential care to the criminal justice system. Episode 2, “Silent Surge” shifts the focus to the silent surge in young female incarcerations. Episode 3, “Gangs Unveiled”, tackles the sensationalized narrative surrounding the rise of African youth gangs. Episode 4, “Deadly Innocence” offers an intense exploration of youth involved in Homicide and serious crime.

With incredible access to young offenders, youth crime experts, and police and youth justice system stakeholders, Pathways to Prison is a must-watch series for all Australians who wish to better understand the nature and causes of criminality.
